Western Australia declared area finalised

Australia’s 5th offshore wind ‘declared area’ was announced today. The area is 30km off the coast of Bunbury, Western Australia. It covers 4,000 km2, with around half of this (~3 x license areas) shallow enough for fixed bottom sites.

Interestingly, there is an increased emphasis on industrial development and local benefits. According to the state’s media release, “Licences will only be awarded to developers whose proposed projects do the most to incorporate Australian materials and manufacturing, consult with local industry, protect the environment, share the marine space and provide benefits to workers, businesses and communities.”

Great to see offshore wind make its way to WA!
